WELCOME and Summer Camp Information

This year Chesterbrook School of Natural Learning is hosting a summer nature camp called WILD CHILD. This is a place where children can spend their summer exploring and discovering the world around them. Exploration and outdoor play is important to a child's growth, health and development.  Through our summer program children will be given opportunities to connect with nature and wildlife in their backyard.

In addition to our structured content and activity-based learning, children will have plenty of child-led free play as well as the opportunity to learn about gardening for food, composting, animals providing food for humans and ways to care for our environment.

Our camp will run from 9:00-12:00.
You may choose a 3 day week (Tuesday through Thursday)
OR
a 5 day week (Monday through Friday).

Each week will have a different theme and focus. Activities may vary based upon student inquiry and interest. Content is geared toward, but not limited to children from ages 3-8.

Pictures and adventures from our day will be posted here for families to view. Additional resources and activity extensions will also be available on this site.

Habitats & Houses: June 27-July 1
The focus of this week is all about basic needs (food, water, shelter & space). As we learn about habitats children will be challenged to create a simple or intricate fairy house to attract creatures. Then we will be challenged to create our own forts to play in.

Vertebrates vs. Invertebrates: July 5-8
Children will explore the differences between creatures with and without a backbone. We will explore and observe worms, grasshoppers and many other critters in their natural habitat.

Bird Beak Buffet: July 11-15
Children will learn about special functions of bird beaks and have the chance to dissect an owl pellet to learn what owls eat! Explorers will be using binoculars and other tools to learn more about birding.

Wet & WILD: July 18-July 22
Children will explore the importance of water for people, animals and plants. We will discover water sources for local wildlife. Explorers will have lots of time to play in the streams and rivers. Splish, splash!

The Natural Pantry: July 25-29
Children will get down and dirty with our garden vegetables! Explorers will have the chance to plant seeds, harvest vegetables and learn all about gardening for food. This week will be full of garden activities & lots of taste testing! Children will also prepare dinner and recipes for the family to enjoy at home.

A snack will be provided each day in connection with our activity themes. Water will also be available. Please feel free to send a healthy snack and drink with your child each day if they'd prefer something else.

Spaces are limited. Please register your child soon to secure their spot. Families who register before May 1st are eligible for discounted tuition.
